Mobile9 1.5 Million Registered & Confirmed

mobile9I logged into the forum today to see that Mobile9 has reached in excess of 1.5 Million registered & confirmed members. What does that mean? Mobile9 has 1.5 million confirmed members as opposed to just registered (that number is much bigger).

Whilst I'm on the subject of facts and numbers, something I noticed from our gallery stats;

  • Files: 321,100
  • Downloads: 2,200,000,000 (that is the correct number of 0's)
  • Categories: 225
Now that's a lot of numbers mind. Here's to some virtual Champagne being toasted! *clink*

Mobile9 Theme Give Away 2008 Winner!

The votes have been counted and the winner of the Aliph Bluetooth Headset and the Mobile9 Theme Making Give Away 2008 is none other than one of Mobile9's "Certified Legendary Themer" Jasnasto.

Her theme Bambi and Friends Animated designed for the Sony Ericsson W850 was the winning entry. With great details and effort put into creating the theme it deserves to be the winner. One judge describes it:

It looks original and the techniques she used through the theme have a perfect outcome. The blending is outstanding and the theme is well balanced. She simply has the best of design and the theme looks extremely functional.
Full Preview Below. Congratulations Jasnasto!

That concludes the Mobile9 Theme Making Give Away. Be sure to stay tuned for future events and chances to win prizes in similar Theme Making Competitions. Until then, you can keep your Theming skills sharp by joining in the weekly Theme Making Challenge which takes place every week on Mobile9.

Themes For Keeps

If you follow my blog, you'd have noticed I have added a new feature on the right which shows my current theme I'm using on my handset.

I usually change my themes as I get bored pretty quickly, and having the whole of Mobile9's huge gallery at my disposal is very convenient. But now and then there comes a theme created which seems to stay on my handset for a while. In recent weeks there have been 3 themes which have more or less fought to stay on my handset for longer than most others. Mainly the Mac Tiger Theme which I have posted about previously, and as I'm going through a Mac phase at the moment it seems to fit right in.

My current theme is one by one of the master themers around the blogosphere now, Pizero. Recently he has had an upheaval on his site, a with new interface for it, which I think looks great.
Pizero has also started uploading a few of his themes to the Mobile9 Gallery, which I am delighted about, and for good reason too, there some benefits to uploading to the Mobile9 Gallery:

  • To get the biggest exposure for your creative talents
  • Join a unique community with the broadest and most widest range of audiences in the world
If you don't believe me you can check out the statistics for yourself from his Homesite. His New Gold Theme has had more than 95,000 downloads since he uploaded just under 4 weeks ago. But that isn't the theme I'm using currently, although it is one of the other 3 I mentioned earlier.

No the theme in question is his New Style theme, which is a mix of Windows Vista and Mac. So far it has had over 48,000 downloads and is my current theme. The style and colours blend really well, the theme is simple and functional and doesn't overstate it's purpose.
Available with the Custom icons or Generic icons it is truly one for keeps!

You can download it from either Pizero's Homesite or his Website which includes both versions and more goodies including alternative wallpapers, a press kit, and some transparent wallpapers.

Mobile9 Surfer Beta

Mobile9 member AzureSephiroth has created a dedicated Mobile9 Surfer Beta. The aim of the software is to allow Mobile9 members an enhanced experience of browsing Mobile9.
The Mobile9 Surfer Beta gives the user quick access to many of the features found on Mobile9.

It is currently in Build: 0.9 Final (Stable Build) and available now, but you will need a Mobile9 account and please do keep in mind it is in Beta stage. All feedback and bug reporting is appreciated. You can use the built in bug reporter feature or use the Thread in the forum.

The current Features and Bug list:

Features

  • Browse the site twice as fast with the internal links to every single subforum.
  • Messenger, Profile and Account functions are all under your disposable with a single click of your mouse.
  • Add your friends to friends list to instantly send them PM's, View their Homesites, View their status and blog.
  • Add your favorite topics to your list for even quicker navigation to your favorites.
  • Simple Navigational buttons help put more focus on the site's contents.
  • Only 129 Kbs for the stand alone package!!

Bugs

  • The Internet Explorer JavaScript errors pop up every now and then since the browser uses the Internet Browser OCX as its core engine. (will switch to Mozilla Gecko engine in future updates)
  • Popups are permitted due to error in OCX. (will be fixed)
  • Partially compatible with Windows Vista. (Works but some buttons overlap)

To Come in version 1.0

  • Shout Members on their homesites from the browser.
  • Link system for all of the Galleries categories.
  • Notify when you have new messages and shouts.
  • Find Members topics and recent posts.
  • Inclusion of the mobile9 forum search engine.
  • Search all 7 major graphics site (eg. deviantart, google, yahoo...)

The program comes in two packages, select the stand alone package if you have the VB automation files. If you are unsure then you'll have to download the complete compiled package with the installer:

Standalone Package (129 Kb)
Contains the application and storage files.

2. Complete Installer Package (2.66 Mb)
Contains all the files needed for the application and an installer.
Edit: Due to an unknown error, the installer will not install the Data folder in the application's root folder. You will have to manually add the folder by downloading the Data Folder ZIP and extract it to the root folder where the EXE is. Sorry, I will try to fix this asap. If you do not do this, you will end up running a loop which will eat up your system resources real quick when you run the executable from the start menu.

So if you installed surfer in:
C:/Program Files/project1/
then you should place the DATA folder along with the REG text file there. It should be like this:
C:/Program Files/project1/DATA/

Again my apologies, hope this doesn't turn members from downloading surfer.

3. Required Data Folder for Installer Only (1 Kb)

Please use the feedback, error links in the help menu if you want something added or want to report an error.

  • Atalantos VS zjurina - Both very good graphic experts going head to head.
  • Azumoru VS Jasnasto - the young prodigy pits his wits against Mobile9's Legendary Themer and TMC Manager (Jasnasto). This will be a tough battle.
  • Tyronne VS noki07 - Tyronne has learnt very quickly and has improved immensely in the last year or so he's joined Mobile9. noki07 on the other and has just recently joined (for the actual TMC in fact). But don't write him off yet, he is a deviant art member and his gallery of themes bodes well for him.

It will be an interesting week to come. I wish all the best to the participants.

As the title obviously suggests Mobile9 are giving away a real prize for the winner of Mobile9's Theme Making Giveaway 2008!

The prize up for grabs is an Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth Headset! The headset itself has had some great reviews around the internet and was also reviewed by Symbian in Motion a while back;

"To be perfectly honest I was blown away after using the Jawbone just one time." - Zach.
Not only do you win it but also the winner will have the opportunity to choose the preferred colour of their choice! Wow, now you can match it with your stiletto's or handbag! (not that I have either of those.)

So how can you win one? It's simple. Firstly you have until 13th January 2008 10:00 GMT to declare your interest, all you've got to do is sign up in the appropriate thread found here.
The rules and guidelines for the competition can be found here. The basic information for the competition are as follows:
General information:
This will be a two week event and the first part will start on 14th of January.

1st week (14th - 20th Jan): Tournament (winners of each randomly drawn battle will proceed to 2nd week)
2nd week (21th - 27th Jan): Contest (winning entry will be selected from all 2nd week participants)

Guidelines:
- one entry per M9er
- theme for any phone (eg. Nokia - both Series40 & S60, Sony Ericsson - including UIQ, and Motorola) is accepted
- must be your own work (themes made using online theme creators, such as our very own S60 or Series40 online theme creator are NOT accepted)
- must be a new theme (haven't been released to the public both at mobile9 and other web sites)
- topic will be announced once give-away starts

So go sing up and good luck!
