Yellix - Great Idea, Executed Wrong

Yellix

If you haven't heard about Yellix it's probably down to one main reason:
One of your friends tried it and gave up during the setup process, why? Mainly because it asks all your friends to install it for it to function properly - which is a major stumbling block for Yellix to become successful in the least.

The idea and concept behind it isn't new or revolutionary but just like many others have tried and failed it's execution wasn't right. If someone at Yellix had taken a look at the INQ1 - they could have tailored the application to work more user friendly and in a way where a user would not have to "harass" their friends on Facebook to install the app.

If the guys at Yellix could get it to integrate within the handset's phone book like the INQ1 does without destroying the contents then this would be a great application, but now it's just another annoying application which I removed before finishing setup - I do not want to harass my friends to install something I haven't even tried out myself.

EDIT:
Having tried again and from the comments posted I have to reiterate that you do not have to send messages to your friends to install Yellix, but rather ask them for their number. You can however type the numbers in manually - which most would agree is a boring and unnecessary procedure.

The other problem with Yellix is that it retrieves the information from Facebook when someone calls, thus having to connect to the net and retrieve their status update - this usually takes a while, especially if the handset isn't connected already - by which the call is already answered.

Definitive summary - needs more work.

I did exactly the same. Installed, saw the set up process in Facebook and thought "I'm never going to do this" and then promotly uninstalled. Shame really, impressive idea.

I installed it on my E71 and I did not have to "harass" any of my friends. I just put their numbers in my Yellix-FB app and the next call I recieved showed their pic and status message. What a surprise to them - knowing what they´re just doing - when I picked up the phone.... it´s quite smooth and gives the wow effect. I love it.

@Niki - So u manually entered their numbers for it to work?

@Adonis: yes. The alternative (eg if you do not have the number) is to "invite" your friends to enter their number. If you do not have a number than you oviously need the consent of the owner of the number to use it. I think this is due to privacy issues. If you know your friends number already - you can link it.

Niki

@Nikki - Wow, that's going to take a while.

@Adonis: well it´s a one time effort. But.... what I saw while entering the numbers. When a friend of yours already entered a number to common friend the person appears linked but the number is shown with asterixes because it is not known to me..... this is coooool - so the more of your friends use yellix the more links with number you will have "automatically". I think this was well thought through.

@Nikki - I've got over 500 friends, do not have the time to be updating them. Good idea, but I'd rather they checked my friends profiles for contact numbers and matched them with my handset's phonebook. Quicker, easier and less time consuming.

@Nikki and Munkimatt
Your friends do not need the YELLIX application for you to see their photo&status when they call you.

But you need to connect their name on Facebook with their phone number.

It would be nice if the YELLIX app could access the phone numbers available on Facebook. But Facebook does not allow any application provider to do that.

The easiest way to link your friends with phone numbers it to "Request their number" in the YELLIX app on Facebook.

Hope that helps!
