UIQ Throws In The Towel - Files For Bankruptcy

Ever since Sony Ericsson and Motorola decided to jump ship and join the Open Handset Alliance, I pondered what the future for UIQ was going to be, my initial thoughts prove to be more correct and sudden than anything, I didn't think the "nail in the coffin" would have been hammered in so quickly into the new year.

UIQ has since filed for Bankruptcy and it's looking like game over especially with comments from the CEO of UIQ Johan Sandberg ar to go by:

There are no opportunities to create a new line of business in the current financial climate.

Now I'm not so sure that statement is quiet true, I still think UIQ could have helped Symbian in perhaps with the upheaval of the Symbian OS UI, there are some slick looking stuff within UIQ, the interface side would have been one area where UIQ's design team might have had some joy, but as an OS UIQ was always going to die, the only question was when.
