Nokia recently released the Nokia Image Exchange application which can share your pictures on-line for easy convenience, although I personally don't see the point of this service there is something that can be used from the application itself; the UI.
Yes the UI in the Nokia Image Exchange is what should have been the S60 Gallery, it's smooth, sleek, fast and responsive. Everything quite the opposite of the S60 Gallery itself. The menus and transitions are smooth (almost iPhone like) and the start-up and indexing is fast. There are simple intuitive menus and no need for icons, making the experience so much better!
I'm hoping someone at Nokia has realised the potential of this UI and if there is going to be an upheaval of the S60 Gallery via a firmware or in the next revision of the S60 OS this is put into consideration.

Its a perfect way to back up your photos, thats its purpose, as well as giving us the UI, an insight to the way the Gallery will look in new devices.
@mickyfin I'm definitely enjoying the UI, and am hoping it comes sooner rather than later. I'm still using share on ovi for my picture backups, which as Nokia application, so why have two different applications which essentially do the same thing?

Nokia Image Exchange is an experimental system where we try integrating the S60 gallery to a corresponding web service. Differences to OVI include back-ups that are done automatically and images move to service as well as to the device from the service to create a single image collection that lives both on the device and on the web.
Due to several limitations and assumptions under which Nokia Image Exchange operates (such as the amount of data being transferred) this is not meant as a mainstream solution like Share on OVI.

@Janne Thanks for the reply. I can understand the concept of the Image Exchange service, just think the UI would be a great addition to the overall S60 experience if it was a replacement for the current Gallery - that's what I was trying to say in my post.
